How to duplicate a page or post in Squarespace

Duplicating pages is a tool from Squarespace that I use all the time. Such a big timesaver for me!

Why would you want to duplicate a page or post?

1.      To quickly create a new page

Duplicating a page means that you don’t have to fiddle with any section settings or styles. You can just swap out the text and images aaand…done.

2.      To keep your design consistent

One thing branding experts are clear about is that consistency is key when it comes to your brand. Duplicating your pages and posts is an easy way to keep styles and layouts consistent and clear.

3.      So you can test out new design ideas

Sometimes I have an idea, but I’m just not sure if it’s going to work. So rather than mess up a current page on my site, I duplicate a page and test it out. Then, I can either recreate it on the existing page or switch out the old page with the new and rename it.

Duplicate an individual page in Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1

Individual pages will have the page icon next to their names in the Pages panel:

1.      From the Home panel click Pages

2.      Hover over the name of the page you want to duplicate and click the gear icon

3.      In the Page settings pop op, scroll down and click Duplicate Page

Duplicating an index page in Squarespace 7.0

Since index pages are considered individual pages stacked on top of each other instead of sections (like you have in version 7.1), you can’t actually duplicate the entire page at once. Each section or “index” needs to be duplicated one at a time, so it’s just not as easy or quick as it is for regular pages.

To duplicate one index section:

1.      From the Home panel click Pages

2.      Hover over the name of the page you want to duplicate and click the arrow < to view the sections

3.      Hover over the index section you want to duplicate click the gear icon

4.      In the Page settings pop op scroll down and click Duplicate Page

5.      The new page will appear in the Not Linked section

6.      Rename your new page and drag the index section wherever you want it to go
